Care & Support Resources
Care & Safety Essentials
These items are thoughtfully selected from Eye on Elders to support families navigating dementia care while promoting safety, dignity, and quality of life. Each resource is chosen with practical, real-world caregiving needs in mind, helping to reduce stress and improve daily interactions. Together, they are intended to support both individuals living with dementia and their care partners through greater clarity, structure, and ease in everyday care.
Dignity Daisy
The Dignity Daisy, developed by Eye on Elders, is a simple, person-centered tool that helps care providers quickly understand what matters most to an individual living with dementia. It highlights important details such as food preferences, meaningful relationships, daily routines, and other personal information that supports individualized, respectful care. By offering a clear snapshot of the person beyond their diagnosis, the Dignity Daisy develops trust, it decreases anxiety and personalizes care.
Dementia Values & Priorities Tool®
The Dementia Values & Priorities Tool® is a planning document designed to help individuals clearly communicate their values, goals, and preferences for future care in the context of dementia and end-of-life decision-making. It guides reflection on what quality of life means personally, as well as preferences regarding life-sustaining treatments such as artificial nutrition, breathing support, and medications. Once completed, the document is signed, dated, and shared with healthcare providers and surrogate decision-makers to help ensure care aligns with the individual’s wishes.
What Dementia Taught Me
With more than 30 years of professional experience in dementia care and personal experience as a caregiver for my mother, I bring both clinical knowledge and lived understanding to this space. This Substack explores where professional expertise meets the realities of caregiving—grief, difficult decisions, and honest reflections about how we support aging brains. It is a place for education, insight, and thoughtful conversation about dementia, care, and the human experience behind it.

Pets on Wheels
Betsy, founder of Eye on Elders, is a devoted animal lover, longtime foster parent, and passionate animal advocate. Her experience with animals revealed a profound parallel: just as animals cannot verbalize their needs, people in the later stages of dementia are often unable to express pain, hunger, or thirst. By listening closely, observing patterns, and tuning into personal preferences, caregivers can develop a deeper, more intuitive understanding of those in their care. At every stage of dementia, animal therapy has the power to bring joy, comfort, and meaningful communication back into daily life.
Every person’s experience with dementia is unique, as is the role of the care partner. At Eye on Elders, we provide specialized dementia care consultations to support families through each stage of the journey. Our case management services are tailored to individual needs, offering expert guidance for in-home dementia and memory care, along with practical, personalized support that helps improve daily care and decision-making.
